A new trail network is being planned on Ikaria!

We have promising news to share! The Regional Government of North Aegean decided that an extensive, public-works project on the trails of Ikaria should be created. In other words, it means that the existing trail network will be properly cleaned, new paths will be added, all trails will obtain numbering and signposting and every starting point will get it’s own information sign with maps.

Here is a map showing the overall picture: Ikaria’s trail literally connecting each and every village like a spine or as some locals like to say, like a fishbone.

The contract of mapping and documenting the necessary works (lhow should the trails be numbered, what cleaning works should take place and where, safety matters etc) was assigned to Lefteris and his company Geopsis Maps. We hope that the Regional Government will take this work seriously and later proceed in the cleaning, marking and other necessary works that are needed to combine Ikaria’s paths into one, unified, marked trail network.

Needless to say that all this work is being conducted in cooperation- and with the advice of local associations and Ikaria’s only Hiking and Mountaineering Club - OPSI.
